Vynita Jacobson

Vynita Jacobson, 70, of Lennox and formerly Watertown, died peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Pioneer Memorial in Viborg. Vynita Vynola Jacobson was born on October 11, 1951, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, to Edward and Dorothy (Hoffman) Jacobson. She joined her parents and sisters, Verlyss and Vyona, on the family farm northeast of Hurley, SD, where they lived until her father's death in August of 1957. Dorothy and the girls moved to Lennox, SD, where Vynita attended school graduating from high school in 1969. She attended University of South Dakota in Vermillion, obtaining a degree in English education. She taught in Kimball, Avon, and Dell Rapids in South Dakota. In 1991 she went to the University for a master's degree in public speaking. Vynita then taught speech communication for fifteen years at Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, retiring in 2008. In 2013 she moved back to Lennox to be close to her family. Vynita was a night owl, and she was not interested in letting the sunrise dictate when she started her day. She collected anything with butterflies: dishes, knick knacks, fabric, pictures, notecards, scarves, and more. She never met a sale she didn't like. Vynita loved the color red, which she often wore. She was often seen with her signature ring - a large pink gem with a gold band. She didn't believe in doing things halfway. She belonged to Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown where she was active on several committees. Back in Lennox she rejoined First English Lutheran where she served on the church council, attended Bible study circle, and served on committees. Vynita was diagnosed with cancer in June of 2016. After aggressive treatment she was 'well' for a couple years, but the cancer returned in March of 2020. Vynita was preceded in death by her father in 1957, mother in 1999, brother-in-law, Roger Bultena in 2020, and grand nephew-in-law Reid Wendel in 2020. She is survived by sisters Verlyss Jacobson and Vyona Bultena; nephews Lance (Jayne) Bultena, Daris (Robert Terry) Bultena, and Damin Bultena; grand nieces and nephews Kealey (Jordan) Braa, Cody Bultena, Kaylene Wendel, Luke Bultena, Cadin Bultena, Marin Bultena and Camden Bultena; and great-grand nieces and nephews Cooper, Miriam, Kathryn, Lorelei, Theodore, Warner and Collin. Memorial services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox. Visitation, also at First English Lutheran, with the family present, will be Friday, 5 to 7 p.m.
