Sophie Miller

Sophie Miller, 96, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Sunday evening, September 29, 2019 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls. Sophie Marie Beeners, was born on February 26, 1923, at Lennox, SD, the daughter of William and Sophia (Schmidt) Beeners. She grew up and attended school in Lennox, graduating from Lennox High School in 1941. She was the LHS Homecoming Queen her senior year. On March 5, 1943 she was united in marriage to George Miller at Bellflower, CA. They lived in California and Texas while George fulfilled his military enlistment. The couple then made their home in Lennox where Sophie worked at the G & W Grocery Store. In 1970 the couple moved to Sioux Falls where Sophie worked for over 35 years at Lewis Drug as a pharmacy technician. Husband, George died on December 30, 1992. Sophie was an active and faithful member of Faith Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder, church organist and taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed reading, cards and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed baking and cooking and was famous for her goulash. Most of all she loved her family, Besides her parents and husband, Sophie was also preceded in death by two brothers: Wilbert Beeners and Marvin Beeners; one adopted sister, Mary Ann Dice. Grateful for having shared her life are her Daughters: Diane (Ken) Headrick, Sioux Falls and Mary (Jim) Hummel, Sioux Falls; Grandchildren: Staci (Dave) Ackerman, Eureka, SD, Alissa (Pat) Ford, Sioux Falls, Tony (Daniela) Rother, Madison, WI and Sarah (Chris) Hatalla, Woodbury MN; Step-Grandchildren: Zach Hummel and Jessie (Braden) Bills; Great-Grandchildren: Hunter Eggert, Tanner Eggert, Taylor Eggert, Brynn Hatalla, Brooke Hatalla and Braden Hatalla; Step-Great-Grandchildren: Vivian Bills and Edison Bills; Great-Great Grandson: Leonard Eggert; Step-Great-Grandchildren: Brenna Ackerman, Logan Ackerman, Courtney Ford, Brandon Ford, Aubrey Ford, Vivian Bills and Branden Hatalla; Great-Great-Grandson, Leonard Eggert; Nieces and Nephews: Rod (Tally) Beeners, Keith (Beckie) Beeners, Craig (Julie) Dice, Cathy (Ryan) Dice, Brian (Denise) Beeners and Sally (Chip) Tanis, as well as other extended family and friends . Memorial services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4 at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox with private family burial in the Lennox Cemetery, preceding the service. Visitation, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday also at Dindot-Klusmann.
