Russel Peters

Russel Peters, age 84, passed away April 7, 2024, at the Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls, SD. Russel Gene Peters was born on July 15, 1939 west of Tea, SD, the son of Henry and Magdalena (Poppinga) Peters. He grew up attending school in Tea and then graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1957. On June 6, 1961 he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Heeren at the First Baptist Church, Chancellor, SD. The couple farmed northwest of Chancellor. Wife, Norma died on March 2, 2001. On July 14, 2012, he was united in marriage to Helen Rippentrop at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Sioux Falls. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Russel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chancellor, where he had served as Church Treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Chancellor Baptist Cemetery Board. Since 2012, he attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he served as an usher, attended Bible studies and belonged to the senior fellowship group SAGE. Russel farmed and raised cattle his entire life. He enjoyed golf, wintering in Florida, Christian concerts, hymn sings and some country music. He also sang duets with his wife, Helen. Most of all Russel was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who deeply loved his family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Helen; children: Arland (Penny) Peters, Marion, and Norine (Jeffrey) Strobel, Wyoming, MN; grandchildren: Carolyne Wohlberg and Peter Strobel; step-children: David (Maria) Rippentrop, Lennox, Daniel (Peggy) Rippentrop, Menahga, MN and Beth Rippentrop, Sioux Falls; step-grandchildren, Jonathan Rippentrop, Justin Rippentrop, Josiah Rippentrop and Janet Goolsby; step-great-grandchildren: Jocelynne Rippentrop, Jaiden Rippentrop, Nova Rippentrop and Jetta Goolsby; brothers: Ron (Darlene) Peters, Lennox, and Roy (Karen) Peters, Sioux Falls, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1600 E. 12th St., Sioux Falls, SD, with fellowship time, then burial in the Chancellor Baptist Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox, SD.
