Richard "Rick" Norris

Richard "Rick" Christopher Norris, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, April 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with colorectal cancer. He was 55 years, 8 months, and 14 days old. Rick was born on August 14, 1969, in Ames, Iowa, to Floyd Raymond Norris and Donna Jean O'Connor. In second grade, he moved with his family to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, alongside his two sisters, Katy Lerch and Deborah Anderson. He later attended Lincoln High School, graduating with the Class of 1987. On April 9, 1989, Rick married his best friend and love of his life, Lisa Michelle Nordmann. They were blessed to share their anniversary with Lisa's parents and grandparents. The couple built a beautiful life in Sioux Falls, sharing 36 years of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership. From a young age, Rick showed a remarkable work ethic and a heart for helping others. He held a variety of odd jobs growing up-delivering newspapers, mowing lawns, running errands for elderly neighbors, and collecting aluminum cans. In high school, he tutored peers and, at age 16, began working full-time at Communication Services for the Deaf (CSD), confirming a lifelong commitment to the Deaf community. Rick later spent three years on the East Coast working for the state government, before returning to the Midwest and rejoining CSD, where he served for most of his professional life. He eventually fulfilled a dream by founding his own business, Interprecorps, a reflection of his entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to accessible communication. Rick was a passionate and tireless advocate for the Deaf and disabled communities. He worked to advance awareness, inclusion, and equality throughout his life. He was also a man of many interests-he loved movies, comic books, coin collecting, cereal and sweets, animals, chocolate pie, board games, history, and following current events. He had a special fondness for St. Patrick's Day and was deeply interested in genealogy and family history. Above all, Rick was a devoted and loving father. He encouraged his children to chase their dreams, show kindness, and live with purpose. He modeled respect for all, compassion for the vulnerable, and unwavering faith in God. Rick was brilliant yet humble, gentle yet strong-a man with a quick wit, a generous heart, and a calm spirit. His legacy lives on through his enduring impact on the Deaf community and in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Donna; his brother-in-law, Bruce Anderson; and his father-in-law, Harley "H.P." Nordmann.He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa, and their three children: Shay, Kyja, and Rykr. He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, extended family, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of cherished friends. A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Turner County Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Davis, SD. A celebration of Rick's life will take place at the church on Friday, May 2, at 2:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
