Raymond Bunjer

Ray Bunjer, 90, of Lennox, SD, died October 8, 2020, at the Sandford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD. Raymond Roy Bunjer was born on July 14, 1930, the son of Harry and Dena (Naatjes) Bunjer. He grew up near Lennox, attending Bedford Rural School, and then graduated from Lennox High School in 1948. In 1952, Ray entered the U.S. Army. He served in Korea, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, and a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1953. On February 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Delores Siepkes at Delaware Reformed Church. The couple farmed and milked cows north of Lennox. Delores died on March 9, 2011. Ray was an active and faithful member of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Trustee. He was a member of the Chancellor American Legion. Ray enjoyed singing and had sung in the church choir, quartets, and with the Bunjer family. He enjoyed playing cards, softball, and was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was a long-time member of the FSA Board, the Perry Township Board, and several other boards. Besides his wife and parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Alvern and Harold, two granddaughters, Megan and Melissa Ketcham, and two great-grandchildren Kaden Thoreson and Skuyler Dumdei. Grateful for having shared his life are his six children: Larry (Lori) Bunjer, Lennox, Sharen Bunjer (Dave), Lennox, Diane (Joel) Begeman, Lennox, Carla (Roland) Krumbach, Hartford, Lori (Brad) Atkins, Tea and Lisa (Bruce) Shay, Lennox; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Mike) Thompson, Michelle (Ryan) Strege, Mitchell Ketcham, MeLeah Thoreson, Mallory Ketcham (Matt Olson), Jeremy (Amanda) Begeman, Jenni (Matt) Bauer, Jodi (Tommy) DeHaven, Miles (Sarah) Krumbach, Emily Krumbach, Ganeene (Brian) Dumdei, Joshua Atkins, Nickolas Wolthuis, Jessica Wolthuis, Christopher Wolthuis; step-grandchildren: Teresa Shay and Tyler Shay; great-grandchildren: Emersen Lee, Harper Lee, Isaak Booker, Willow Booker, Logan (Madi) Brown-Veen-Strege, Klayten Thoreson, Mattie Thoreson, Kolten Thoreson, Easton Olson, Jack Begeman, Jonah Begeman, Jered Begeman, Julian Begeman, Jaycee Bauer, Jensen Bauer, Striker DeHaven, Kenzie DeHaven, Max DeHaven, Kooper Dumdei, Royce Dumdei, LaNae Dumdei, Cameron Wolthuis; two step-great-grandchildren: Tanner Frank and Jazzmine Shay; one sister-in-law, Joyce Bunjer, Omaha, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends. Public services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 13 at Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. Visitation, also at the church will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service, with the family present. In lieu of flowers, memorials to charity are preferred.
