Nolan Miller

Nolan Miller, 89, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly, of Chancellor, SD, died Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls. Nolan Charles Harvey Miller was born on December 29, 1929, at Chancellor, SD, the son of Elwood and Matilda (Krull) Miller. He grew up in this area attended Turner Country rural school district #90. He worked at various jobs until entering the U.S. Air Force in 1951, during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1954. Nolan worked in communications and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served on bases in California, Texas, Wyoming, Florida and at a remote outpost in Alaska. On April 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Muller at the Second Reformed Church, Lennox, SD. Evelyn was able to follow Nolan during his Air Force service to California and Florida. The couple then began farming near Chancellor, and then moved to their farm near Davis, where they farmed most of their lives, retiring into Sioux Falls in 2002. Nolan was resident at Day Break on Thursdays and became a resident at the Good Samaritan Village for the past 2 years. Nolan was an active and faithful member of the Chancellor Reformed Church were he had served as both an Elder and Deacon. He belonged to the Chancellor American Legion and volunteered for over 10 years at the Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls. Nolan enjoyed collecting farm toys and playing computer solitaire. Most of all, Nolan was a devoted husband and father, who deeply loved his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Elnora Miller, Elvera (Bill) Feekes and brother-in-law, Ray Rippentrop. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of over 67 years, Evelyn; children: Charles (Sharon) Miller, DDS, Northfield, MN, Cynthia (Reed) DeVries, Sioux Falls, Cheryl (John) Griffith, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; David (Jackie) DeVries, Matt (Laura) Lynde, Sarah (Chad) Kurtenbach, Amanda (Justin) Preister, Nathan Miller and Caitlin Miller, step-grandchildren: Kristi Rasmusson and Derek Rasmusson; seven great-grandchildren: Avery, Taten & Atley Lynde, Ethan & Emma DeVries, Clara Preister and Pierce Kurtenbach; siblings: Marceen (Bill) Kromminga, Sioux Falls, Doris Rippentrop, Mora, MN, and special friend Al Abbas, Chancellor, as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 17 at Chancellor Reformed Church with burial in the Chancellor Reformed Cemetery. Visitation, also at Chancellor Reformed, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.
