Mary Dooley

On the morning of October 31, 2024, Mary Dooley passed away at Ava's House hospice in Sioux Falls, SD after tender care by her beloved family. Born September 10, 1959 in Canton, SD, Mary was the second daughter born to Roy Meyer and Maryjo Meyer (Hultengren). She grew up near Lennox, SD, graduating from Lennox High School in 1977. Mary worked in numerous industries including various lead positions with Berry Global, and at Showplace Cabinetry (where she worked until her retirement). A true Midwesterner, Mary enjoyed each season in all its glory. She could be found enjoying a campfire or gardening in the summer, tending her treasured chickens in the fall, watching 'Twister' during a winter blizzard, and baking a delicious cake following the first robin sighting in spring (an event for which her family eagerly awaited updates). Mary was a lifelong learner, and in her spare time could be found researching family genealogy, reading, creating intricate lists and itineraries for family vacations, crafting, and engaging in word games/puzzles. In October 1978, Mary wed David Parmley, and through their union they welcomed four daughters. In November 2004, after dating for several years, Mary married Clifton Dooley. During this marriage, Mary delivered her fifth daughter. In her relationship with Clif, Mary met her match in curiosity, intelligence, and love. They enjoyed visiting museums during their travels across the Midwest and Las Vegas. Mary will be remembered always as the most patient, loving, generous, and wonderful mother. She always knew what to say, when saying nothing was best, was your fiercest defender, demonstrated that hard work is integral to a good life, and was present for all of life's moments. All those who had the great fortune of knowing her will remember Mary as witty, quick to laugh (especially with a good pun), kind, and spirited. In death, Mary is reunited with her father, Roy; and sister, Alice. She is survived by her mother, Maryjo. Her loss is experienced by her siblings John (Mary) Meyer, Chris (Frank, deceased) Hufford, and Patty (Dave) Wilson. Grateful for having shared her life is her husband, Clif. Her independent spirit will continue through her daughters, Valerie (Nicholas Jones) Parmley, Sonya (Shawn) Steele, Carissa (Morris) Lee, Franny Parmley, and Ciara Dooley. Mary's legacy will persist through her grandchildren: Jacob, Jeffrey, Revee, Jordan, Morgan, Alex, Alexa, Joey, and Harrison; and her great granddaughter, Kenyetta. Public visitation, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 PM Monday, November 4 at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox, SD. Private burial at the Beaver Creek Cemetery, rural Canton, SD will occur at a later date.
