SERVICE CHANGE Services will now begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at First Presbyterian Church, 2300 S West Ave, Sioux Falls, SD. Marlene Phyllis (Meyer) Sinning, age 87 passed away peacefully with family by her side in Loveland, CO on Dec 30th. . Marlene was born Sept 13, 1936 to loving parents, Frank and Engeline near Chancellor SD. The middle of three girls, Marlene spent her childhood on the farm with older sister Frances and younger sister Harriett. Theirs was a special bond that carried them through life. As a child, she attended country schools by Chancellor and graduated from high school in Lennox, SD. While there, she met the love of her life, Don Sinning. On Sept 9,1956 they were united in marriage and moved to Sioux Falls where they later started their family, welcoming son Duane and daughter Karla. Family was always at the center of everything in Marlene's life. Weekends were spent surrounded by parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews on the family farms. There was never a shortage of love or laughter. Due to this strong family foundation, she openly shared that love when her children married, welcoming Kim (Thoelke), Tim Clauson, and Dale Filholm as part of her family. When her children married and started having families of their own, the role of grandma suited her well. She dearly loved her 5 grandsons and 3 granddaughters-in-law with all her heart. And, her love of family was endless, as was displayed in her role as great grandmother to four great granddaughters and one great grandson. Marlene was an active and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls for over 60 years. Her move to Colorado in September 2022 was to be closer to family and enjoy this very special love. Marlene was preceded in life's passing by husband Donald Sinning, daughter Karla Filholm, son-in-law Tim Clauson, her parents, sister Frances Smit and husband Clarence Smit, brother-in-law Kenny Herren, brothers-in-law John Sinning, Karl (Flossie) Sinning, Alvin (Fern) Sinning, Verlin (Vonnie) Sinning, Bob Sinning and sister-in-law Annabelle (Rollie) Bunde. She is survived by her son Duane Sinning and wife Kim Sinning, grandsons Jeremiah (Katie) Sinning, Adam Sinning and Tim (Kelly) Sinning, great granddaughters Brinley Sinning, Charlie Sinning and Kennedy Sinning, son-in-law Dale Filholm and wife Katherine Filholm, grandsons Nole Clauson and Brian (Kim) Filholm, great grandson Miles Filholm and great granddaughter Violet Filholm, sister Harriett Hereen and several dear nieces and nephew.
