Lola Steever

Lola Steever, 85 died Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Dow-Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lola Frances Drew was born on January 1, 1928, the daughter of Jerome and Caroline (Olson) Drew, at Sioux Falls South Dakota. She grew up in Sioux Falls and for a brief time lived in Hawarden, Iowa. She graduated in 1946 from Washington High School in Sioux Falls.. On January 14, 1951 she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Henry Steever at Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Following their marriage they farmed on the home farm northeast of Lennox, South Dakota. Jack died on March 6, 2001 ending a marriage of over 50 years. Lola was an active and faithful member of First English Lutheran Church. She was active in WELCA. She belonged to the Lennox Petal Pals and took great pride in the care and planting of the gardens at home and in the Lennox City Park. Her powerful faith and grace included a deep love for ALL of God's creatures. In the past she belonged to the Thrifty Doers extension club. Lola loved to entertain her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her beautiful letter writing skills which she used to keep in touch with family and friends. She was a faithful fifty plus year pen pal to several friends in England. It was her great joy to host these pen pals at her home and eventually travel to England to visit them there. Lola had a servant heart and would usually be found at most social gatherings gravitating towards the kitchen to serve, assist, do dishes, and clean up. At holidays, many people enjoyed Lola's lefse. Besides her parents and husband Jack, Lola was preceded in death by one son, Paul, who died at age four in 1960 and two brothers, Milo Drew and Kenneth Drew. Grateful for having shared her life are her three children: Nancy (Gene) Kuper, Arlington, TX, Tom (Lori) Steever, Jefferson City, MO, and John P. (Sara) Steever, Lennox; five grandchildren: Jared Kuper, Baltimore, MD, Mary Kuper, Houston, TX, Brian (Katie) Steever, Kansas City, MO, John T. Steever and Elizabeth Steever, both of Lennox as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox with burial in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. The family suggests memorial gifts to First Englsih Lutheran Church or the Union Gospel Mission.
