Larry Sorensen

Larry Sorensen, 69, of Lennox, SD, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020, at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD with family by his side. Larry LaMarr Sorensen was born on July 11, 1951, in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of Ray L. and Shirley (Mahoney) Sorensen. He grew up and attended school in Hurley, SD and graduated from Hurley High School in 1969. He went on to attend the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. On June 17, 1972, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Christopherson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Viborg, SD. He first worked for Western Electric and then moved to Dakota Cooperative Telecommunications, now known as Vast Broadband. At the time of his passing, Larry had spent 50 years working for the telephone industry. Larry and Bonnie had made their home in Lennox for the past 38 years. Larry had been raised in the Lutheran faith and was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing with friends and woodworking along side his son Justin. Larry's contagious smile lit up a room and his favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren and friends. Most of all, Larry loved his family, and deeply treasured his role as Grandpa. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Ray and two brothers: Dale Sorensen and Jay Sorensen and father-in-law, Ellwood Christopherson. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of over 48 years, Bonnie; children: Lisa Friese, Rochester, MN and Justin (Reah) Sorensen, Sioux Falls; five grandchildren: Kate, Luke, Will, Jack and Tessa; his mother, Shirley Schallenkamp, Sioux Falls; two brothers: Randy (Ruth) Sorensen, Carmell, IN and Steve (Tina) Sorensen, Frankfort, IL; sister-in-law, Connie Sorensen, Colorado mother-in-law, Gloria Christopherson, Sturgis; brothers-in-law: Andy (Jacque) Christopherson, Sioux Falls, Larry (Nancy) Christopherson, Spearfish, Merle (Deb) Christopherson, Gillette. WY, Terry Christopherson, Gillette, WY and Rick (Judy) Christopherson, Elk Mountain, WY, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. In accordance to Larry's wishes, private graveside services were held, with burial in the Lennox Cemetery.
