Johan Albers

Johan "John" Albers, age 67, passed away suddenly from a medical condition, at his home in Lennox, SD on November 3, 2024. Johan George Albers was born to Cornelius "Slim" and Florence (Buus) Albers on June 14, 1957, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up in Lennox, where he attended elementary school and the early years of high school. This is where he met the love of his life, Shirley Murray. When John's dad passed away at the age of 66, and Florence remarrying, John decided to move in with his sister Barb and her husband Sam in Canistota. Still head over heels for Shirley, John wrote her special letters and found anyway possible to visit her, even if it meant hitch-hiking. John and Shirley were united in Marriage in June of 1974. First making their home in the Lennox/Tea Area. John started working with his brother Darwin and brother-in-law Sam at Fisca Gas Stations in Sioux Falls, Omaha, and Minneapolis. Once moving back to SD, John followed his brother Darwin, brother-in-law Sam and sister Barb and started working at McCord Heat Transfers in Canton, SD. John enjoyed his many competitions with Darwin on the fin press machine. In 1997 Shirley's job took them to St Louis MO for approximately 15 years, where he enjoyed working at Porters Chicken. Shirley retired in 2011, at which time the couple moved back and established their forever home in Lennox, SD. As a young adult John did enjoy raising a little "cane" with his friends, Kerry Townsend, Larry Stoffers, Jon Reiners, Randy Johnson, Dave Folken and Dave Nowak. More than anything John loved spending time with his family. Whether it was playing pool with grandkids and his brothers, or on his many pool leagues or watching his grandkids multiple sporting events. John also enjoyed collecting Budweiser collectables, riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco 49'ers. John was always willing to help with giving the granddaughters a ride to where ever they wanted to go. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by sisters and brother-in-laws, Joe Matthews, Mickey DeBoer and Tina (Bernie) Stone. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Shirley; two sons Chad (Danielle) Albers, Sioux Falls, Travis (Kristina) Albers, Lennox; nine grandchildren: Chase, Jayden, Cayden, Konnor, Jazlyn, Madalyn and Ericka, Landon and Colton; 1 great-granddaughter, Sadie; siblings: Lorna Thomas, IA, Minnie Matthews, Mitchell, Neal (Pauline) Albers, Garretson, Albert (Janice) Albers, Lennox, Barb (Sam) Sletten, Lennox and Darwin "Darkie" Albers, Lennox, brother-in-law, Harold DeBoer, Mitchell. As well as a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 8, 2024 at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox, SD, with burial to follow in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, also at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home.
