Janice Stewart

Janice Stewart, 83, died Friday morning, March 9, 2012 at Sanford U.S.D. Medical Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Janice Penney was born on January 30, 1929, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of Edward and Matie (Reiners) Penney. She graduated from Lennox High School in 1947. On February 1, 1948, Janice was united in marriage to Wayne Stewart at the First English Lutheran Church, Lennox. They owned and operated "The Oriole Cage" Café in Lennox. In 1957 they moved to southern California. She was employed as a cafeteria manager for the Los Angeles School District for over 25 years where she fed thousands of meals to children throughout the San Fernado Valley. In 1992 they returned to South Dakota and made their home in Sioux Falls. Wayne died on September 7, 2009. Janice a member of First English Lutheran Church, Lennox Legion Auxiliary and past President of the L.A. School District Cafeteria Managers organization. She also belonged to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and Sioux Falls Water Babes. Janice and Wayne traveled extensively throughout the central and western U.S., literally burning up one motor home. They treasured the life long friends they made along the way. Besides her husband and parents, Janice was preceded in death by one son, Dennis on August 8, 2008; one grandson, Adam in May 17, 1998. Grateful for having shared her life are her three sons: Danny (Kathleen) Stewart, Sioux Falls, David (Jeri) Stewart, Palo Cedro, CA and Dudley Stewart, Charlotte, NC; daughter-in-law: Sheila Stewart; eight grandchildren: Chris Stewart, Kasey (Lisa) Stewart, Kyle (Mikyla) Stewart, Bonnie Stewart, Becky Stewart, Jake Stewart, Andrea (Rory) Weber & Jennifer (Rhett) Butler; seven great-grandchildren: Evan, Emma, Ethan, Ella, Eastan, Jaiden, Rex and one great-granddaughter on the way; brother Kenny (Ardell) Penney, Omaha as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will begin 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 13 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox with burial to follow in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox.
