Grover Giddings

Grover Giddings, 83, of Lennox, SD, formerly of Dallas, TX and Scurry, TX, passed away, March 5, 2024, at the Department of veterans Affairs Royal C. Johnson Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD, from complications of heart failure and Parkinson's. Memorial services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox, SD, with burial to follow at 3:00 p.m., at the SD Veteran's Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Grover Alan Giddings was born March 26, 1940 in Burt Iowa. Son to Bill and Nettie (Grover) Giddings. He grew up and attended school in Burt Iowa, graduating in 1959. Following school he worked at the Burt Elevator. He married his forever sweetheart, Carole Sue (Etherington) on May 11, 1963 and they had 2 daughters, Tena and Marcia. He also raised a nephew, Gary Giddings. He was married for 60 years. In April of 1963 he was drafted into the Army. They moved to Fort Hood Texas and later he served in Korea for a 13 month tour. Upon being discharged he went back to the elevator in Burt Iowa and In 1966 he moved his family to Dallas Texas and worked for the Dallas Transit System driving a city bus for 32 years. He retired in August of 1995. Later he drove charter buses for Buses by Bill driving all over the United States. He was there for 16 years. In 2021 he and his wife moved to Lennox South Dakota. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, reading about animals, plants, trees and gardening. He helped clean and can all of the fruits and vegetables they grew. He loved sharing it with everyone he knew. He enjoyed wood working as well. He never met a stranger. He was a people person always willing to help anyone. He loved to tell stories and you could always anticipate a joke from him. He was a good son, husband, father, uncle, brother and friend. He and his wife took in over 19 other children who needed a temporary home. So he was Dad to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Nettie Giddings, brothers, Gary, Gordon and Roger Giddings, daughter, Tena Giddings Cruz, and grandson, Adam Nunn. He is survived by his wife Carole of Lennox SD, daughter, Marcia (Dale) Overstreet of Burt IA, Nephew, Gary Giddings of Dallas TX. Brothers, Craig (Kathy) of Burt IA, Gail Giddings of Santa Cruz CA, Neal Giddings MO. Grandchildren, Nicole (Ricardo) Santos of Austin TX, Ben (Sarah) Overstreet of Sioux Falls SD, Olivia Ivarsen of Sioux Falls SD, Robert (Ahcilah) McClain of Rosser Tx, Eric (Cammie) McClain of Kemp TX, Carlos (Alyssa) Cruz of Scurry TX, Christina (Cameron) Smith of Kaufman TX, Kristian Cruz of Scurry TX, and Vincent Cruz of Scurry TX and Braiden Chamberlain of Oakland CA, and 15 great-grandchildren, Juliette, Mila, Nash, Cohen, Natalie, Mason, Rowan, Willow, Charlee, Wyatt, Colt, Lily, Kristian Jr., Samiyra, Marcus and many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind a great legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories, which will be remembered forever.
