Don Anderson

Don Anderson, age 85, of Lennox, SD, passed away, March 8, 2023, at Ava's House hospice, Sioux Falls, SD. Don Wesley Anderson was born on August 5, 1937 at Granite Falls, MN, the third of six children to Edward and Mabel (Peterson) Anderson. He graduated from high school in Milbank, SD. He had served in the SD Army National Guard. Don learned woodworking at a young age from his father and went on to own and operate his own construction company and custom cabinet shop. He was master craftsman who took great pride in the quality and design of the many homes and cabinets he built. On June 29, 1979, he was united in marriage to Elaine Skie-Smidt at First English Lutheran Church. This union gave Don, having been a bachelor his entire life, an instant family, with six children and three grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family. Don and Elaine made their home in Lennox. Don was a member of First English Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. He served on the Lennox Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and also served on the board of the Lennox Cemetery. His favorite pass times were his aquariums filled with fish, model trains, music, reading, his cats and spending time at his second home "the shop". Most of all, Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who deeply loved his family. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by two siblings: Larry Anderson and Marlene Danielson. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Elaine; children: Galen (Lenae) Smidt, Harrisburg, Brian (Shellene) Smidt, Lennox, Cindy (Ron) Ludens, Crooks, Debbie (Curt) Bartels, TN, Brenda Crevier, Sioux Falls and Pamela (Rick) Leisinger, Lennox; 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; siblings: Dean Anderson and Lee (Avis) Anderson, both of Roanoke, VA and Carole Musch, Lennox, as well as his loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 14 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox with burial to follow in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation, also at First English Lutheran, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to charity are preferred.
