Darlene Friese

Darlene Friese, 93, of Chancellor, SD, passed away, December 24, 2024, at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion, SD. Darlene DeVries was born on August 9, 1931, on a farm near Chancellor, SD, the daughter of John and Ella (Hildebrands) DeVries. She grew up here attending rural school. On October 30, 1953, Darlene was united in marriage to Harold W. Friese, at Germantown Presbyterian Church. The couple farmed north of Chancellor, where Darlene was a devoted wife and mother and took an active role in the crop farming operations, as well as milking cows, raising pigs and caring for chickens. She also worked for 25 years at Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, in house keeping and patient transport. Husband, Harold, passed away July 20, 2010. Darlene was a life long member of Germantown Presbyterian Church where she served as a Youth Leader and Singspiration Leader. She learned to play piano by ear, and played for numerous events and groups, including The Friese Family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, yard work, gardening, especially picking corn and canning. Darlene had a deep faith in God and dearly loved her family and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Harold, Darlene was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Marie Plucker, Elizabeth Hagena, Evelyn Symens, Andrew DeVries, Eddie DeVries and Merlin DeVries. Grateful for having shared her life are her five children: Darold (Shelly) Friese, Renner, LaNeil (Darrel) Bartell, Sioux Falls, Gayla (Jim) Wipf, Chancellor, David (Mitzi) Friese, Chancellor and Shelly (Kelly) Hansen, Irene; 13 grandchildren: Jessica (Eric) Aguirre, Amanda (Kyle) Bruender, Landon (Cassie) Friese, Emily Wipf, Katie Wipf, Kali (Hunter) Kjose, Zach Wipf, Ariel (Joey) Gilsdorf, Josh (Karlee) Friese, Tessa Friese, Connor (Logan) Brown, Madison Hansen and Peyton Hansen; 16 great-grandchildren: Jacob Aguirre, Andrew Aguirre, Norah Aguirre, Olivia Aguirre, Easton Bruender, Kayden Bruender, Lily Friese, Liam Friese, Lyla Friese, Weston Kjose, Ellie Gilsdorf, Laken Gilsdorf, Kohen Friese, Jovee Friese, Larek Brown and Layna Brown; special friend, Annis Mechels, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2024, at Germantown Presbyterian Church, rural Chancellor, SD with burial in the Germantown Cemetery. Visitation, also at Germantown Presbyterian Church, with the family present, will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may directed to the Union Gospel Mission, Sioux Falls or Gideon's International.
