Daniel Lynde

Daniel Francis Lynde, of Lennox, South Dakota passed from this life on May 17, 2026, in Sioux Falls at the age of 71. A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm on June 13 at the family home located at 46491 279th Street, Lennox SD. Dan was born on April 13, 1955, in Mitchell, South Dakota to parents Cairriell “CC” and Vivian Reisch Lynde. He grew up in Howard and graduated from Howard High School before beginning a lifelong career in concrete work. Dan spent some time working on barges on the Gulf/Mississippi River following High School and eventually found his way home to South Dakota. Following this venture he moved to Midland, Texas with his family before settling back in South Dakota in the late 80’s, first in Sioux Falls, Wall Lake, and later in Lennox. Dan had a brilliant mind and a knack for numbers, making him an asset on every job. For several years he worked for Lynde Construction and poured concrete for many of the Sanford and Avera facilities, and several ethanol plants throughout South Dakota, Iowa, and Ohio. Dan never stayed still for long, and although he retired several times, he always found a way to get back to work on the next new project or business venture. Dan loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed going out on the Missouri River and chartered a fishing boat with his family on Lake Michigan a few times. He spent the last 15+ years digging a fishing pond on his property outside of Lennox so that the grandkids would always have a peaceful place to throw a line in together. Family was at the center of Dan’s life. He shared all he had with them whenever possible, including time spent hunting and fishing together, and taking trips out to the Missouri river, Texas, or Yellowstone. Dan’s family and friends will remember his big heart and love for others. He was strong throughout his life, but his strength especially showed over the last 10.5 years as he faced a cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatments. Over the last year, Dan was working on a book to chronicle his experiences. Titled, The Right to Try, it is soon to be published. Dan is survived by his children, Trevor Lynde of Canistota, and Jennifer Lynde, Justin (Pam Routh) Lynde, and Kaaleb Bond all of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Nikol, Dylan, Taylor, Morgan, Levi, Sierra, Cole, Jaxson, Kensley, Maksimus, Tatum, and Thomas; great-grandchildren, Stella, Isaac, Nala, Paislee, Carter, and another baby boy on the way; mother, Vivian Lynde; siblings, Mike (Cheryl) Lynde, Tom (JoAnn) Lynde, Joe (Marie) Lynde, Pat (Marcie) Lynde, Bob (Dorothy) Lynde, Jane (Basil) Hunt, Carol (Ron) Jensen, and Sandy Ruth. He was preceded in death by his father, CC Lynde, siblings, Jeff, Steve, Joyce, and Rick, and daughter-in-law, Karri Ann Lynde.
