Clarice Haan

Clarice Haan, of Lennox, SD, formerly Chancellor, died Saturday, April 9, 2022 at the Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. Clarice Doreen Haan was born August 14, 1933 to Paul and Clara (Ulrikson) Fossum in rural Lennox, SD. She attended rural school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1951. Following graduation she was employed in the bookkeeping department at the Union Savings Bank in Sioux Falls, SD. It was here that she was introduced to the business world and enjoyed it the rest of her life. She married her best friend, Fred Haan, on September 19, 1953 at the West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lennox, and moved to the family farm northeast of Chancellor, SD, where they worked together in the dairy business. They joined the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and remained faithful members there the rest of their lives. They were blessed with four children: Floyd, Jeffrey, Kerwin, and Caren. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning, and sewing. She taught Sunday School and was active in the women's groups of the church. Her family was very important and she enjoyed family gatherings. When her children were all in school, she went back to working outside the home. She worked in the accounting department at Farmers Oil Company in Chancellor, and in Sioux Falls at Ryan Automotive, Vern Eide Honda, and part time work at Sullivan's Wholesale. She loved all these jobs. After 67 years of living on the farm, she moved into a house in Lennox in 2021. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Rev. Floyd (Janice) Haan, Pollock, SD, Jeffrey (Charlene) Haan, Davis, SD, Kerwin (Vera) Haan, Lennox, and Caren Haan, Big Springs, NE; grandchildren: Rev. Matthew (Holly) Haan, Rock Valley, IA, Mark (Kristin) Haan, Sioux Center, IA, Luke (Christa) Haan, Sioux Falls, John (Jacqueline) Haan, Sioux Falls, Rachel (Jarud) Neises, Lennox, Jonathan (Tasha) Haan, Lennox, Pamela (Ryan) Klenner, Sioux Falls, Andrew Haan, Chancellor, Jason (Brittany) Haan, Chancellor, Amanda (Brian) Wittmeier, Sioux Falls, and Theodore (Chynna) Bonander, Big Springs, NE; great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Titus, Ezra and Andrew James Haan; Brenna, Julia and Henry Haan; Axel Haan; Eleanor and Matilda Haan; McKenzie and Jessa Mattson, Jaxon Neises; Lyra Haan; Abigail and Lydia Klenner; Ava, Beau, and Mac Wittmeier; Marshall and Dallas Bonander; sister, Nila Olson, Centerville, and sisters-in-law, Rose Haan and Iva Haan, both of Lennox. She was preceded in death by her husband, in October of 2018, her parents, her in-laws, and three brothers: Ernest, Paul, and Allen. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13 at Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, with live streaming via the church website, then burial in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation, also at Lennox Ebenezer, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
