Barri Baloun

Barri Baloun, 69, of Lennox, SD, died Monday, March 4, 2019, at Solara Acute Care Center, Mc Allen, TX. Barri Jaye Baloun was born on July 8, 1949, at Faulkton, SD, the son of Melvin and LaVonne (Anderson) Baloun. He grew up and attended school in the Highmore, SD area, graduating from Highmore High School in 1967. He attended SDSU for three years and then in 1970 entered the US Air Force, serving for six years, until his honorable discharge in 1976. On November 10, 1969 he was united in marriage to Linda Van Hull at Ironwood, MI. The couple made their home Myrtle Beach, SC and Fairbanks, AK, while serving in the Air Force. In 1977, they moved to Highmore, SD, where Barri farmed and ranched. In 1992 the couple moved to Lennox, SD where Barri began driving truck, which he continued until retiring in 2014. Barri was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, Lennox and the Lennox American Legion. Barri loved to grow a garden and can the many vegetables that he grew. He was a perfectionist when it came to lawn care. He enjoyed leather work, crossword puzzles and Cryptoquiz puzzles. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Besides his parents, Barri was preceded in death by one brother, Randi Baloun and father-in-law, Henry Van Hull. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda; sons: Shawn Baloun, Sioux Falls, Aric (Kirsten) Baloun, Sioux Falls, Travis (Sarah) Baloun, Lennox and honorary son, Sam Oltmanns, Lennox; six grandchildren: Seth Baloun, Sioux Falls, Trista Severson, Tea, Alex Stewart, Tea, Aidyn Baloun, Sioux Falls, Braelyn Baloun, Lennox and Brysen Baloun, Lennox; five great-grandchildren; siblings: Julie Fischbach, Faith, SD, Connie (Robin) Miller, Fairbanks, AK, Lorrie (Dr. James) Graves, Fairbanks, AK and sister-in-law, LeAnn Baloun, Highmore, SD; mother-in-law, Joy Van Hull. Sioux Falls, as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at First English Lutheran Church, Lennox, Visitation, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 15, also at First English Lutheran.
