Ronald Fast

Ronald Fast, 61, died Thursday evening, September 15, 2011 at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Ronald Dale Fast was born on September 25, 1949 in Huron, South Dakota, the son of Benjamin and Kathryn (Hofer) Fast. He grew up on the family farm and attended school near Hitchcock, SD. The family then moved to a farm near Iroquois, SD where Ron attended Cavour rural school. He had been married to Harlene Waldner. Two children were born to this union. On November 20, 1981 he married Sheryl Schoffelman in Rapid City, South Dakota. The couple lived in South Dakota, Iowa, Texas and Arizona before settling in Cheyenne, Wyoming for the past 20 years. In 2011 they moved to Sioux Falls to be near family during his illness. Ronald owned and operated several Fast Car Washes and Western Trucking and Excavating in Cheyenne. He enjoyed country western music, western movies, the Hallmark Channel and Little House On the Prairie. Ron's hobbies included boating, hunting, camping, horses and four wheeling in the mountains and on the lakes of Wyoming. He loved to "play in the dirt" with his excavating equipment and he loved his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, two infant sisters, Connie and Carolyn and his father-in-law, Henry Schoffelman. Grateful for having shared his life are wife, Sheryl, Sioux Falls; children: Tammy (Troy) Vink, Tea, Tracy (Troy) Folsom, Trinidad, CO, Sarah (Areyman) Gabriel, Sioux Falls, Kristin (Matthew) Skapyak, Hoboken, NJ and Justin Fast (special friend Faith Ahlers), Sioux Falls; grandchildren: Ryan Folsom, Zackery King, Isaac King, Talynn Vink, Jalen Fast and Amoni Fast; siblings: Judy Olson, Randall Fast, Janet Neuroth and Verlyn Fast; his mother Kathryn Fast, Huron and mother-in-law, Cora Schoffelman, Chancellor as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Germantown Presbyterian Church, rural Chancellor with burial in the Germantown Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Cheyenne, WY.
