Roger H. Klinghagen

Roger Klinghagen, 89, of Lennox, SD, died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at the Dow Rummel Village, Sioux Falls, SD. Roger Henry Klinghagen was born, in Lennox, SD, on April 20, 1932, the son of Henry G. and Ella (Kuper) Klinghagen. He grew up attending school in Lennox and rural Harrisburg, before graduating from Lennox High School in 1950. Roger went on to serve in the U.S. Army, during the Korean War in Japan and Korea, from 1953, until his honorable discharge in 1954. On August 6, 1958 he was united in marriage to Joyce Nelson at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Beresford, SD. The couple made their home in Canton, Beresford, Sioux Falls, Algona, IA and Tea before moving to their acreage, rural Lennox. Roger held a variety of jobs throughout his life including for the Minneapolis Moline Parts Warehouse, Sioux Falls, in farming for many years and for the Production Credit Association in Sioux Falls and Algona, IA. The couple owned and operated the Tea Trading Post grocery store from 1972 to 1977. Roger then worked in agriculture sales and went on to own and operate Tea Farm Supply, was the facility manager of the Tea Airport and was a substitute rural mail carrier for Worthing. Roger was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea American Legion and a charter member of the Tea Lions Club. He served for over 25 years on the Tea Volunteer Fire Department in various capacities including Chief and served on the board of the Tea Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Roger belonged to the Siouxland Collectors, where he could express his passion for collecting and restoring Minneapolis Moline tractors and collecting farm toys. He enjoyed Pinochle and in younger years, golf and dancing with Joyce at the Arkota Ballroom. Most of all, Roger was a devoted husband and father, who deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers and a daughter-in-law, Mollie Klinghagen. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of over 63 years, Joyce; four children: Gary Klinghagen, Tea, Karen (Todd) Otterberg, Spearfish, Janet (Kim) Hansen, Harrisburg and Brian (Patty) Klinghagen, Lennox; eight grandchildren: Jason Otterberg, Kory Otterberg, Cole Hansen, Chase Hansen, Dylan Klinghagen, Kade Klinghagen, Mikayla Bond and Delane Hood; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Dennis (Val) Klinghagen, Sioux Falls and Keith Klinghagen, Harrisburg, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea, SD. Visitation, also at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the family present, will begin one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m.
