Robert Homan

Robert Homan, 77, of Davis, SD, died Friday, January 11, 2019, at Avera Dougherty Hospice, Sioux Falls, SD, following a lengthy illness. Robert Michael Homan was born on March 22, 1941 at St. Leo, MN, the son of Michael and Viola (Lanners) Homan. He grew up in Minnesota until moving to Clear Lake, SD in his teens. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1959. Robert served in the SD Army National Guard for six years. On June 12, 1965 he married Joyce Torgerson at Clear Lake, SD. The couple made their home in Toronto, SD, where Robert worked at and later managed the grain elevator in Toronto. In 1969 he moved to Davis, SD, where he became the owner and operated the grain elevators in Davis and Chancellor. He sold these operations in 1991. Robert was a member of Davis American Legion. He had served on the SE SD Elevator Board of Directors and was chairman of the Davis Town Board for several years. In younger years he enjoyed hunting. His passion was raising and farming with draft horses. He belonged to the Hartford Draft Horse Club and the Humboldt Thresherman's Association. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved to play cards. Most importantly, he loved his family and enjoyed supporting and attending his grandkids activities and sporting events. Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Homan, who died December 29, 2018 and brothers-in-law, Doug Lindner and Dennis Elliott. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Joyce; daughters: Jodi (Lynn) Jorgensen, Tea and Robin (Jerry) Wirth, Yankton; four grandchildren: Derek Jorgensen, Rebecca Wirth (fiancée Dan Sokolowski), Jessica Wirth and Tyler Jorgensen; siblings: Janet Elliott, Missoula, MT, Gene (Marge) Homan, White River, Joyce (Larry) Bendt, Sioux Falls, Rita (Dan) Ashbaugh, Clear Lake, Leona Lindner, Watertown, John (Teresa) Homan, Watertown and sister-in-law, Judith Homan, Clear Lake and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the Davis Legion Hall. Visitation, with the family present, also at the Davis Legion, will Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.
