Orval Winterboer

Orval Winterboer, 89, of Sioux Falls, formerly Chancellor, died Friday, October, 6, 2017 at Sanford Centennial Hospice Cottage, Sioux Falls. Orval Dwayne Winterboer was born on August 30, 1928 on a farm near Chancellor, SD, the son of Henry C. and Anna W. (Highstreet) Winterboer. He grew up attending country school and graduated from Chancellor High School in 1946. He served in the SD Army National Guard for three years. On October 22, 1948, he married Inez Hieb at the Chancellor Reformed Church parsonage. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls and Chancellor before moving to their home farm in 1950. They farmed for 56 years near Chancellor and moved into Sioux Falls in 2010. Orval was also a seed corn dealer for many years. Inez died on June 18, 2012. Orval was an active member of the Chancellor Reformed Church and had served various positions on the church consistory. In his younger years, he was a gifted softball pitcher who played on A and B fast pitch leagues in Sioux Falls as well as church softball. He was a devoted Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed pool, golf, fishing, dancing and goose hunting. He enjoyed raising and riding horses. Most of all, he loved his family and attending his grandchildren's activities. Besides his parents and wife, Orval was preceded in death by siblings: Leland Winterboer, Ruth Jibben, Lyla Wiebesiek, Isabelle Moerke, Lois Hofer and Vera DeBoer-Fritz. Grateful for having shared his life are his three sons: Jeff (Susie) Winterboer, Omaha, NE, Jim (Venita) Winterboer, Brookings and Brad (Beverly) Winterboer, Chancellor; 11 grandchildren: Jason Winterboer, Jamie (Brad) Urban, Meghan (Joe) Gunia, Chad Svendsen, Megan Winterboer, Andrew Winterboer, Mason Winterboer, Amy (Mike) Mattheis, Derek (Nicole) Winterboer, Beth Brynjulson and Jared (Jamie) (Jessica) Winterboer; 20 great-grandchildren: Breann, Alex & Macy Urban, Brody & Molly Gunia, Ryann Winterboer, Porter Winterboer, Jadee & Preston Mattheis, Dane, Annika, Lydia & August Winterboer, Lauryn, Jacey & Avynn Brynjulson, Madison, Brendon, Ayva & Delanie Winterboer; sister, Inez Kuborn, Rapid City, special friend, Shirlee Richardson, Sioux Falls and special niece, Betty Hammerstrom, Lennox as well as other relatives and a host of friends. Memorial services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 9, at Chancellor Reformed Church with burial preceding the service in the Chancellor Reformed Cemetery. Visitation also at Chancellor Reformed, with the family present will be Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. Memorials may directed to either the Union Gospel Mission or the Center for Active Generations, Sioux Falls
