Nathan Metzger

We can still hear him singing and dancing in the kitchen while he cooked. Oh, he'd sing so loudly for all of us to hear, not a bother. And when we looked at him, he'd smile so big, with his chin up high and his big bright eyes our way, and he'd just keep singing for us. The kids adored him. They gravitated toward his big hugs that he always held onto and his playful laugh and tremendous heart. They'd squeal with delight watching Daddy throw Ronan so high in the air. "I got you!" he'd giggle, with eyes so intent on his babies. Nathan was absolutely the purest of souls, so gentle and mighty, kind and warm. He had the biggest love for every single one of us, and this is how we will remember him. We will miss everything. Nathan Daniel Metzger went on to meet his Savior on April 29, 2021, where he undoubtedly continues deep and meaningful conversations about spirituality and life the way he used to challenge us all here on Earth. He was so thoughtful and devout to his faith, so honest and giving with anyone he encountered, and he was bigger than life itself. He fills Heaven today with an unforgettable sound of laughter, delicious smells of fresh-roasted coffee beans, and all his love to give. Nathan was born Feb. 21, 1981, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the son of Joseph J Metzger and Sharon (Atkins) Metzger. He grew up and attended school in Tea before graduating from Lennox High School in 1999. On Oct. 3, 2008, he married the love of his life, Amy (Kyte) Metzger. They made their home in Sioux Falls, where he built a masterful career as a self-employed residential and commercial painter, and he and Amy welcomed six beautiful children into this world. Nathan loved his family fiercely, connecting with each of them personally in so many ways, guiding them faithfully, and teaching them how to love. We will forever see his goodness in his children. Nathan is survived by his wife, Amy; children Isaiah, 12, Hannah, 10, Jayda, 7, Caleb, 6, Ronan, 4, and Gabriel, 5 months; mother, Sharon Metzger, of Tea; father, Joseph (Cheryl) Metzger, of Florida; siblings Rachael (Tom) Junck of Sioux Falls, Jason (Timea) Metzger of Sioux Falls, and Carrie (Eric) Kunkel of Virginia; half siblings Lizzie (Sam) Hernandez of Florida and Emily (Charles) Kolstad of Florida; grandmother Jerene Atkins of Tea; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Preceding him in death were his grandparents Dwayne Atkins, Marson Metzger and Marie Metzger. Hug your children tightly tonight, make time for deep and genuine conversations with those you love, sing loudly or tell a joke, and think of our Nater. Thank you for being a part of his life. Public services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 4 at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, 4100 S. Bahnson Ave, Sioux Falls. Public visitation, with the family present, also at Abiding Savior Free Lutheran, will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 3. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family, for the care of their six young children, are requested.
