Lucille White

Lucille White, 91, died following a short illness, on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center. Lucille Schmidt was born in Lennox, SD, on March 15, 1919 to Lubbert and Lizzie (Janssen) Schmidt. She moved with her family to Pasadena, CA and Rapid City, SD before returning to Lennox. She attended school and graduated from Lennox High School in 1937. On October 4, 1941, she was united in marriage to Orval J. White. They lived and farmed near Lennox for over 40 years until they retired and moved into Lennox in 1980. They were blessed with four children, Roger, Robert, Linda and Randy. Orval died on February 28, 2009, ending a marriage of over 67 years. Lucille was an active and faithful member of Second Reformed Church in Lennox. She taught Bible School and was a member of the Philathea Guild. Lucille's hands were rarely idle. She was a wonderful cook and the fruit from her backyard apple trees was always put to good use and shared freely. She continued to take great interest in the family farm. She enjoyed time spent in her garden and had many beautiful flowers. She and Orval enjoyed playing cards with friends, their trip to the Rose Bowl and keeping in touch with friends and family by phone. She maintained contract with the Schmidt families still in Germany. She cherished her husband and family and they always took first place in her life. She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sports, music and all their activities. In addition to her husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings: Martin and Raymond Schmidt. She was the last surviving member of the Lubbert and Lizzie Schmidt family. Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Roger White, Sioux Falls, Robert White, Lennox, Linda (Dennis) Kronaizl, Scotland and Randy (Vicki) White, Lennox; nine grandchildren: Barry (Stephanie) White, Jason White, Patti (Greg) Goehring, Bradley White, Dan (Jenni) White, Kraig Kronaizl, Michael Kronaizl, Ashley White and Kristen White; three great-grandchildren: Jessica Trainer, Ryan Trainer and Shelbi Goehring. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 15 at Second Reformed Church. Lennox, SD with burial in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox SD.
