Lendall Geiken

Lendall Geiken, 74, of Lennox, SD, died Monday, May 20, 2019, peacefully with his family by his side, at the Veterans Administration Royal C. Johnson Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD. Lendall "Len" Gary Geiken was born on August 22, 1944, the son of Harry and Ella (Poppenga) Geiken. He was raised on their farm southwest of Sioux Falls. Lendall attended Golden Rod District 66 country school. He attended and graduated from Lennox High School in 1962. Lendall served in the US Army in the Viet Nam War until his honorable discharge. On September 18, 1970, Lendall was united in marriage to Marlene Fincher. In his working career, Lendall was a mechanic, farmer, grain elevator manager in Ellis, SD, Sioux Falls and Tea, SD, meat cutter and supervisor at Meilman's Meat Packing in Sioux Falls. He worked in maintenance for Weeg's Motel and Trailer Park in Sioux Falls, until retirement, Lendall was working for the Lennox School District as a custodian and in maintenance. Lendall enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping at Lake Madison. He is member of the Sioux Falls V.F.W. In his younger years, he was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. Lendall will always be remembered for his infectious smile, sense of humor and friendly and outgoing personality. He fought a hard battle through a lengthy illness. His motto was to never give up. Besides his parents, Lendall was preceded in death by his parents-in-law, Elvin and Matilda Fincher, sister-in-law, Connie Geiken, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of over 48 years, Marlene; four sons: LaMonte (Dede) Geiken, Lennox, Loren (Trish) Geiken, Sioux Falls, Leonard Geiken, Tea and Leroy (Marisa) Geiken, Lennox; two daughters: Misty (Marty) Dahl, Parker and Miranda (Jordan Richardson) Geiken, Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren: Shelby, Nathan, Trevor, Tori, Kenyah, Mati, Gavin, Hadley, Easton, Lyndsay and Maura; three great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Savannah and Evyana; one brother, LeRoy Geiken, Sioux Falls; brother-in-law and sister-in law, Al and Valerie Fincher, Sioux Falls, special friend and fishing buddy, Reed Forster, Madison, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers at the VA Hospital, CLC Oncology Unit and the Sanford Dialysis Unit. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25 at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox with burial in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dindot-Klusmann.
