Janet Fletcher

Janet (Hagenbuch) Fletcher was born March 25, 1924, in Alexandrea, South Dakota to Carl and Nellie (Parnell) Hagenbuch. She attended rural school in the Alexandria area and later moved with her family to a farm near Davis, SD, graduating from Hurley High School and Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls. Janet worked as a bookkeeper for the AY McDonald Co. in Sioux Falls for several years. She married Daryl Fletcher on February 14, 1947. They continued to work in Sioux Falls and live with Daryl's parents. In the spring of 1948 they moved to her parents' farm near Davis. They farmed until retiring and moving into Davis, where she lived until 2009. Janet enjoyed wintering in Mission, TX for 31 years, playing bingo, cards and going to yard sales, pot lucks, and get togethers with her friends at the parks recreation hall. Daryl died in October of 1999, but she continued going south every winter. Janet prepared the church bulletin and was a Sunday school for a number of years, member of the Hurley Presbyterian Church, Davis American Legion Auxillary, volunteer for DAV and other groups. Janet and Daryl were active members of the Hurley Hoppers Square Dance Club, and traveled to many dances around the country, including square dance bus trip and cruise. Janet sold her home in Davis in 2009 and moved in with son Darwin, in Sioux Falls. She lived with him until ill health forced her into a nursing home this year. Janet is survived by her sons: Wayne (Sheila) Fletcher, Mission Hills, SD, David (Lina) Fletcher, Denver, CO and Darwin Fletcher, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Hagenbuch, Sioux Falls and nieces, nephews and other relatives. Besides her husband, Janet was preceded in death by brothers Gilbert and his wife Natalie and Roger and one niece Beth Hagenbuch. Services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 31 at Bethel Reformed Church, Davis with burial to follow in the Davis Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with the family present, at Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox.
