Henrietta Rust

Henrietta Rust, 90, died Saturday, July 13, 2019 at her Sioux Falls, SD, home from natural causes. Henrietta Stena Smit was born on April 14, 1929, near Lennox, SD, the daughter of Henry G. and Rena (Seeba) Smit. She grew up attending school in the Lennox area and graduated from Lennox High School. On June 30, 1950 she was united in marriage to Carl Rust at the Second Reformed Church in Lennox. The couple made their home on a farm near Davis, SD, for five years and then moved to Sioux Falls. They were blessed with a son in 1955 and a daughter in 1961. Henrietta worked various jobs throughout her life. She was most proud of what she and Carl had accomplished together. She and Carl had owned and operated the Lake Village Mobile Home Park in South Sioux City, NE. They also owned and operated the Harvey Motel and the Rushmore Motel, until Carl's passing on May 26, 1993, She continued to operate the motels with her son and daughter. Together they owned and operated the Brimark Inn and the Oaks Hotel in Sioux Falls. She loved the hotels. Upon leaving the hotel business in 2012, Henrietta enjoyed helping Cindy with the daycare. She loved the children they cared for and loved that they called her grandma. Henrietta had been a member of Delaware Reformed Church, rural Lennox. Upon moving to Sioux Falls, she attended Central Church in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed flower gardening and family vacations throughout the U.S., specifically California. Most of all, Henrietta loved her family. Besides her parents and husband, Henrietta was preceded in death by her brother, Frances Smit; sisters-in-law, Mildred Smit and Fannie Rust; brothers-in-law: John "Jack" Wiebers and John "Johnny" Rust and nephew, Robert Smit. Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Curtis (Sharron) Rust, Sioux Falls and Cindy Rust, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren: Stacie Rust, Christopher Rust, Susan Rust and Stephanie Rust; one sister. Gladys Wiebers, Lennox as well as other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Central Church, 3102 W Ralph Rogers Rd, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation with the family present, will begin one hour prior to the service, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Central Church.
