Frieda Hagena

Frieda Elnora Knock was born March 1, 1919 on the family farm south of Lennox, daughter of Nickolas and Harmanna (Niggendyker) Knock. She attended Long Creek School, then helped on her parents' farm. On February 14, 1944 she was united in marriage to Ben Hagena in the Delaware Reformed Church parsonage. Following their marriage, they farmed southeast of Lennox for 33 years, moving into Lennox in 1977 while continuing to help on the farm. To this union were born three children, Linda, Arlan and Carol. She was a devoted wife and mother, working side by side with her husband on the farm. Her faith and her family were her life's priorities. She will be remembered for her love and daily prayers for all of her family, her generosity, her contentment, her gentle spirit and her sweet smile. She was a lifelong, active and faithful member of Delaware Reformed Church, rural Lennox, having taught Sunday school, Bible school and was a member of RCWM. She was also a member of the Lennox Senior Citizens, where she was one of "The Quilters". Preceding her in death were her husband on June 12, 1989, and son-in-law Ronald Javers on March 6, 1997. Also preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers: Harm and his wife Flora, Carl and his wife Rena, brother Alvin and two sisters: Elizabeth and her husbands John Wiebel and Cuno Bunger and Marie and her husband Henry Bunger. Frieda passed to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 18, and attained the age of 95 years, 7 months and 17 days. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Linda Javers-Richter and husband David Richter, Lennox, son Arlan and his wife Cheryl, Lennox and daughter Carol and her husband David Bogaard, Orange City, IA; nine grandchildren: Tami (Timm) Gronseth, Jodi Javers, Steven (Rebecca) Bogaard, Michael (Tricia) Bogaard, Jonathan (Tara) Hagena, Rachel (Bryan) Van Kley, Holly (Zach) Ochoga, Heidi (Lee) McCoy, and Thomas Hagena; and 21 great grandchildren: Kylee, Kourtney and Carter Gronseth, Alyssa Friman, Brooklyn Dillon, Peter, James and Alexander Hagena, Hannah Ochoga, Bennett, Brigham and Greta McCoy, Zemirah, Creed and Jacinth Bogaard, Brendan, Aleah and Tayla Bogaard, Kallie, Victoria and Trevor Van Kley, sister-in-law Clara Hagena plus nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23 at Delaware Reformed Church, rural Lennox with burial in the Lennox Cemetery. Visitation, also at Delaware Reformed will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Dindot-Klusmann Funeral Home, Lennox is in charge of arrangements.
