Duane Woods

Duane Woods, 82, of Worthing, SD, passed away January 4, 2023, at the Happy Siesta Healthcare, Remsen, IA, under hospice care. Duane Wesley Woods was born on October 28, 1940, the son of Marion and Marguerite (Ferrie) Woods, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was raised by his grandparents, Jack and Ethelyn Woods in Worthing, SD, where he attended school and graduated from Worthing High School. He went on to graduate from Auction School in Mason City, IA and began a lifetime career as an auctioneer. He also worked for Concrete Materials in Sioux Falls, SD, as a young adult until 1988. Duane and his wife, Shirley started their own auction business (DJ's Auction) in 1989 and ran the business until 2005, when they retired. Duane had a love for horses and bought and sold horses in his spare time. He particularly had a soft spot for ponies, and always had ponies around for the grandkids to ride, or for anyone to stop over and buy one for their family. Duane married Shirley Weisenbach on April 4, 1964 at St. Edward Catholic Church, in Worthing, SD. The couple made their lifelong home in Worthing, where they raised their four children, Patty, Jim, Sandy, and MaryJo. Shirley passed away on March 14, 2016. In addition to his wife Shirley, he was grateful for having shared his life with his children: Patty (Bob) Seuntjens, Kingsley, IA, Jim (Laura) Woods, Canton, Sandy (Scott) Elcock, Lennox, and MaryJo (Dave) VanDenTop, Worthing; 14 grandchildren: Katey (Travis) Ludwig, Karley (Dylan) Bales, Kimmy Seuntjens, Kevin Seuntjens, Matthew (Mckenzie) Woods, Thomas Woods, Elizabeth Woods, Grace Woods, Payton Nordman, Paxton Nordman, Preston Nordman,Jessica (Sean) Hanson, Dylan (Lexy) Woods and Tori (Cory) Cunningham; six great-grandchildren: Walker, Elley, Charlie, Emma, Kasey and Vivian; sister, Shannon Woods, and a host of other family and friends. Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, parents, Marion Woods and Marguerite Latona, grandparents, Jack and Ethelyn Woods, son-in-law, LaVain Nordman and sisters, Jean Kock and Roberta Theel and his brother-in-law, Romy Ysband Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023 at St. Magdalen Catholic Church, Lennox, SD, with family present visitation 2 hours prior to the service, from noon to 2: p.m. Burial will follow in the St. Edward Cemetery, Worthing.
