Donald Hough

Donald Hough, 67, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, suddenly and unexpectedly at his home from a medical condition. Donald Arthur Hough was born February 20, 1953, the son of Arthur and Jean (McKinnon) Hough. He grew up attending school at St. Joseph Cathedral and then graduated from O'Gorman High School. He went on to attend General Motors Institute in Michigan and earned a bachelor's degree from Kettering University, Flint, MI. He then earned a Master's of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. Later in life he continued his passion for learning and earned a Master's of Education from the University of Sioux Falls. Don had been married to Audrey Porth and one son, Arthur was born to this union. He then had been married to Mary Voltz and one son, Daniel, was born to this union. On March 9, 2005 he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Barber, at the Prince of Peace Assisted Living, Sioux Falls, where his father, Art was his best man. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls. Don was employed as the Director of Human Resources for Bayou Steel in La Place, LA and casinos in Bettendorf, IA and Biloxi, MS. In addition to caring for his aging parents, Don also worked for the Sioux Falls Argus Leader and as a school bus and limousine driver. Don enjoyed technology, especially Apple products and history, specifically, Native American populations. He was a writer and loved Blue Grass music. He listened to NPR Radio and was a follower of the Garrison Keillor Prairie Home Companion radio program. He was a passionate fan of the Boston Celtics and the Michigan Wolverines. Most of all, Don deeply loved his family. Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Verlo. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary Jo; son: Art (Katherine) Hough, Evergreen, CO and Dan Hough, Sioux Falls; step-children: Sarah (Jason) Bouwman, Austin, TX, Erin Wheelock, Raleigh, NC and Katie (Matt) Lambert, Durham, NC; grandchildren: Delaney & Phoebe Hough; step-grandchildren: Isaac (Jacquelyn) Bouwman, Jaron Bouwman, Rebecca Bouwman, Alice Wheelock and Loma Lambert; sisters: Marilyn (Frank) Alvine, Sioux Falls, Virginia (Mike) Brimmer, Las Vegas, NV and Mary (Mike) Backes, Danville, CA as well as other relatives and friends. Per Don's wishes no public services will be held.
