Angela DeRuyter

Angela DeRuyter, 34, of Tea, SD, died from injuries she received in a traffic accident on Thursday, February, 21, 2019. Angela Joy Baartman was born on May 11, 1984, at Sheldon, IA, the daughter of Randall and Lois (Overman) Baartman. She grew up and attended school in Hull, IA, graduating from Boyden-Hull High School in 2002. She went on to earn a degree in nuclear medicine technology from Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD. She had worked as a nuclear medicine technician at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and currently at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls. On April 22, 2006 she was united in marriage to Jon DeRuyter at Hull, IA. The couple made their home in Andover, MN for seven years and then moved to Tea, SD, where they have lived for the past six years. Angela was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea. She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her sons, Landon age 9 and Gabriel age 7. She devoted her time to her boys' school and sporting activities, specifically soccer. She enjoyed trips with friends, travel and family vacations and fishing with her family. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Marion Overman, August DeRuyter, Gertrude DeRuyter and Fern Jones. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jon, sons: Landon and Gabriel all of Tea; parents: Randy and Lois Baartman, Hull, IA; brothers: Adam (Michelle) Baartman, Tea and Kyle Baartman, Hull, IA; Jon's parents: Arnie and Janie DeRuyter, Rock Valley; grandparents: Johanna Overman, Sioux Center, IA, Kenneth and Shirley Baartman, Boyden, IA and Wallace Jones, Mitchell; Jon's sisters: Kristi DeRuyter, AZ and Heidi (Phil) Wilson, Tea and a host of other relatives and friends. Memorial services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea. Burial in the Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley, IA, will precede the service, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Visitation, with the family present, will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tea. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be given to the Angela DeRuyter Memorial Fund at any Great Western Bank or a basket will be available at the visitation and memorial service. Funds will be used for the boys' education.
